Michigan business owners are lobbying to decommission a pipeline beneath the Straits of Mackinac that they feel poses an environmental risk.

This article describes the efforts of business leaders to decommission the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline beneath the Straits of Mackinac. The Great Lakes Business Network include a variety of local business leaders, many of whom are involved in tourist related industries including Shepler’s Ferry and craft brewers. Larry Bell of Bell’s Brewery is a vocal opponent of the pipeline, citing the environmental harms caused by Enbridge Pipeline’s spill in the Kalamazoo River.

Pipeline condemnations have been occurring at an unprecedented pace in Michigan recently. As national attention focuses on both spills and explosions, the publicity will likely create greater negative reaction to purchasing properties encumbered by pipelines. This will in turn reduce values and increase just compensation claims caused by new pipelines.

If you have any questions about pipeline issues, I suggest that you review this post specific to that issue or feel free to contact me directly.
